- Two-step increase of 3.1 percent and 2.6 percent

The approximately 130,000 employees of Deutsche Post who are covered by a collective-bargaining agreement will earn more money this year and next year. The pay raise was reached at the conclusion of collective-bargaining negotiations conducted by the German services union ver.di and Deutsche Post AG. As part of the agreement, pay will increase by 3.1 percent on August 1, 2013, and by another 2.6 percent on October 1, 2014. At a minimum, pay will rise by a gross total of EUR 2,200 per employee during the life of the collective-bargaining agreement. Apprentices will receive a 6.1 percent increase retroactive to April 1, 2013, throughout the term of the agreement. The agreement will run from April 1, 2013, to May 31, 2015.
Postal allowance adjusted
For active German civil servants at Deutsche Post, a one-time payment of EUR 200 will be made on both July 1, 2013, and April 1, 2014. In addition, the so-called postal allowance paid to civil servants will be adjusted effective October 1, 2013, and brought up to the same level as that received by other civil servants. This change will result in an average monthly increase in the allowance to EUR 110. In addition, civil servants in lower income groups will receive an additional payment of EUR 125 a year beginning on October 1, 2013.
“This agreement will exacerbate our structural problems in a shrinking mail market,” said Angela Titzrath, the Board Member for Human Resources and Labor Director at Deutsche Post DHL. “At the least, we were able to gain planning certainty and clarity about wage costs for more than two years.”
